Keras Cliff House and the Quiet Science of Living Longer

Earlier this year, Novotel — Accor's founding hotel brand, operating across more than 110 countries — announced a new global strategy called Longevity Everyday. The programme is built around four pillars: sleep, food, movement, and connection. It involves new premium beds certified to environmental standards, plant-forward menus across all properties, fitness programming, and a commitment to what the company calls "democratising longevity for everyday travellers."

It is a sincere initiative, and the science behind it is real. It is also, in a gentle but meaningful way, a description of something that Keras Cliff House has been offering without a programme name since the day it opened.

We have no certified beds, no branded wellness menus, no longevity coaches. What we have is a clifftop house above the Libyan Sea, a landscape that has supported human health and long life for millennia, and a growing body of research that explains precisely why places like this do what they do to the people who spend time in them.

The stress question

Longevity research has converged on a remarkably consistent finding: chronic stress is one of the most significant predictors of early death. Crete's local markets and tavernas are not curated wellness destinations.
